UF students can engage and connect with others in the Reitz Union, home to dining establishments, study spaces, meeting rooms, game room, dance studios and an on-campus hotel. Would you believe that the world's largest occupied bat houses are on the UF campus? Located on the north side of Museum Road across from Lake Alice, the barn and house provide dwelling for more than 350,000 Brazilian free-tailed bats. Visitors flock to the area at sunset to see the bats emerge to feed on water at the lake and flying bugs.

Another notable distinction on the UF campus is Lake Alice, which occupies 129 acres. It is an open water/marsh system that provides habitats for wildlife and an outdoor classroom for students to learn about natural Florida watershed systems. No water recreation activities are permitted on Lake Alice; however, UF also has Lake Wauburg for sailing, kayaking, paddle boarding and other water and outdoor activities.
