Welcome Week is a series of welcome events, orientation activities, workshops and information sessions held before the start of semester each year. Welcome Week in Semester 1, 2020 will take place from 17 to 21 February – but some events happen in the week before and after, so be sure to check the schedule.
Making the most out of Welcome Week will help you start class full of confidence. We run a huge program with events essential to your orientation and transition into life as a student, including:
There are many events that are specifically held to help international students settle into Sydney. When making your travel plans, try to arrive well before Welcome Week (ideally 2-3 weeks before your first day of class) so you’ll be able to go to as many of these activities as possible.
If you're getting ready to study in Sydney, make sure to read up on what you should do before your big move.
If you miss Welcome Week, you may find yourself trying to catch-up for the rest of the semester. Our welcome programs are designed to help you transition into university life and prepare you for success.
If you can’t make it, make sure you read all the information sent to your University email account and read up on our information for new students.
Once you’ve figured out what goes on inside the classroom, it’s time to experience life outside it! Welcome Week is also all about making lots of new friends.
The University of Sydney Union hosts a massive Welcome Festival each year, packed with fun events and a huge showcase of the hundreds of student clubs and societies that you can join.
University is a little bit different to high school. You’ll find yourself adjusting to a new way of learning, but don’t worry, we have some simple lessons that will help you transition seamlessly into your new tertiary life.
